MAN CHARGED AFTER POINTING A FIREARM
(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON) – On December 7, 2017, at approximately 5:25 a.m. members of the Mississauga First Nation Police Service (MFN) and the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service on Mississauga First Nation, Ontario.
The complainant reported that a male had pointed a firearm at him after a verbal argument between both persons had taken place.
Brian Keith MARION, 45 years of age, from Mississauga First Nation, Ontario, was charged with:
-Pointing a Firearm, contrary to section 87 of the Criminal Code (CC),
-Unauthorized possession of a Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the CC,
-Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order (eight counts), contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC,
-Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC,
-Fail to Comply with Recognizance (four counts), contrary to section 145(3) of the CC.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River, Ontario on December 7, 2017.
SPEEDING DRIVER CHARGED WITH STUNT DRIVING
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On November 26, 2017, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17, in the East Algoma area.
At approximately 10:23 a.m. police received a traffic complaint of a vehicle travelling east bound on Highway 17 close to Bruce Mines, Ontario, driving at a high rate of speed in a careless manner. A short time later police located the vehicle and the driver was charged.
The same vehicle was later stopped again after police received additional traffic complaints for speeding erratic driving.
This resulted in the driver being charged again and the vehicle was towed and impounded.
Vishal Singh KHEHRA, 21 years of age, of Orillia, Ontario, was charged with:
Race a motor vehicle – stunt, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
Speeding 1- 49 km/h over the posted limit, contrary to section 128 of the HTA, and
Fail to have insurance card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on January 17, 2018.
HEADLIGHT OUT ALSO REVEALS DRIVER SUSPENSION
(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On November 28, 2017 at 12:02 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Paris Drive in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.
Police observed a vehicle with only one headlight illuminated. Subsequently, a traffic stop was conducted and investigation revealed that the driver’s license was suspended.
Keiran LARIN, 23 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:
Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario, on February 7, 2018.
NO REAR LIGHTS DRIVER CHARGED WITH SEVERAL OFFENSES
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On November 26, 2017 at 1:49 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street, in the Town of Blind River, Ontario.
Police observed an east bound vehicle operating with no rear lights on. A traffic stop was conducted and investigation revealed that the vehicle was not insured. Subsequently, the driver was charged and the vehicle was towed.
Eric CHAMPAGNE, 27 years of age, of Blind River, Ontario, was charged with:
-Operate motor vehicle on a highway – no insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA),
-Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
-Driver fail to surrender license, contrary to section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
-Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle, contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the HTA.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 1, 2018.
IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED AND CHARGED IN SIOUX LOOKOUT
(Sioux Lookout, ON) At 11:02 pm on December 2, 2017, the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Drayton Road in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.
The driver of the vehicle was Sean GAUDRY (50 years old).
GAUDRY was impaired from the consumption of alcohol and arrested for the same. He was transported to the Sioux Lookout OPP detachment where he provided samples of his breath to police.
The samples revealed that he had over legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
GAUDRY was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired as well as operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
GAUDRY was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Sioux Lookout Court on January 2, 2018.
Police are asking anyone that sees a suspected impaired driver to phone 9-1-1 and report it to police.
PLANE CRASH AT SIOUX LOOKOUT AIRPORT
(Sioux Lookout, ON) The Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Sioux Lookout Volunteer Fire Services and the Northwest EMS were dispatched to a private plane that crashed while landing at the Sioux Lookout Airport.
There were two occupants on the plane and neither sustained life threatening injuries. One of the occupants was transported to the hospital via ambulance for precautionary measures but was cleared medically shortly after.
The plane was leaking fluids that were contained by the Sioux Lookout Volunteer Fire Services were able to contain and clean up.
Thankfully no one was seriously injured as a result of this incident.
TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO SEVERAL CHARGES
(LITTLE CURRENT, ON) – On Saturday December 2, 2017 at approximately 10:10p.m. officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop after observing a traffic violation at the intersection of Highway 6 and Ge Teh Mikan in Sheguiandah, Ontario.
Investigation revealed that the lone male driver was in possession of controlled drugs.
Police seized a quantity of marijuana and a quantity of cocaine.
Further investigation revealed that the male was an unlicensed driver and there was a warrant out for his arrest.
As a result of the investigation, Jade JACKO, age 22, of Whitefish River First Nation, Ontario has been charged with:
-Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana – Under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
-Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
-Drive Motor Vehicle – no licence contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) and is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Gore Bay, Ontario on January 9, 2018
OPP CHARGE FEMALE WITH DRUG POSSESSION AT RIDE CHECK
(ESPANOLA, ON)- On Sunday December 3, 2017 at approximately 11:00 p.m. officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checks at the junction of Government Road and Reserve Road in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, Ontario.
Officers checked a vehicle and determined that the passenger was in possession of controlled drugs. Police seized a quantity of marijuana and a quantity of pills.
As a result of the investigation, Vanessa TRUDEAU, age 39, of Sagamok First Nation has been charged with:
-Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana – Under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
-Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Oxycodone contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.
The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Espanola, Ontario on January 8, 2018.
VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On November 26, 2017, at 11:33 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol duties on Highway 17 (Causley Street) in the town of Blind River.
Police observed an east bound motor vehicle travelling with no headlights or tail lights illuminated.
A subsequent traffic stop was conducted. Officers detected a strong odour of marihuana emanating from the vehicle. After investigation, the driver was arrested and vehicle searched.
The search of the vehicle revealed drug related paraphernalia, marihuana, numerous cell phones, and approximately $33,650.00 in cash.
Members from the Northeast Region Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit (PAFU), East Algoma Crime Unit and uniform members were involved with the investigation.
Oronde Nicosi GORDON, 23 years of age, of Niagara Falls, Ontario, was charged with:
– Possession of Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana, under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ontario on February 1, 2018.
TRAFFIC VIOLATION RESULTS IN SEVERAL CHARGES FOR BRUNSWICK HOUSE FIRST NATION MALE
(WAWA, ON) – On Friday December 1, 2017 at approximately 2:15 pm members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East (Chapleau) Detachment had occasion to stop a motor vehicle on Highway 101, Borden Township District of Sudbury for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the male driver of the vehicle had provided police with false identification.
As a result Philip Martin SEABROOK, (31) of Brunswick House First Nation, Ontario, was arrested charged with the following offences:
-Adult Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice (identity fraud) contrary to section 403(1)(d) of the Criminal Code of Canada,
-Adult Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada,
-Adult resist Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada,
-Adult Driving while Disqualified- Court Order contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada,
-Adult Speeding contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario,
-Adult Driving While Under Suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario,
-Adult Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario,
-Adult Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act of Ontario.
The accused was Held into custody pending a bail hearing.
SPEEDING DRIVER ARRESTED WHO FLED FROM POLICE
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On November 26, 2017, at 8:15 p.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol duties on Highway 17 in the North Shore Township. Police observed a west bound motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.
Before police turned and caught up with the speeding vehicle, it had already lost control and entered the ditch, and the driver had fled on foot.
A short time later, the male driver was located and subsequently arrested.
Colin William WARUS, 35 years of age, of Sudbury, Ontario, was charged with:
-Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
-Flight while pursued by a Peace Officer, contrary to section 249.1(1) of the CC
-Speeding 1- 49 km/h over posted limit, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
-Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor License Act (LLA)
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ontario on February 1, 2018.
WANTED MALE CAUGHT IN RIDE CHECK
(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On November 17, 2017, at 9:10 p.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence on Axmith Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake to check on a male who was supposed to be abiding by numerous release conditions.
The male was previously charged and released with conditions, one of those being a nightly curfew.
On December 2, 2017, the East Algoma OPP were conducting a RIDE check program on Highway 108 and Airport Road in the City of Elliot Lake. A southbound vehicle was stopped and the male was in the passenger seat.
As a result, police arrested the male.
-Raymond YOUNG, 26 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:
-Fail to Comply with Recognizance, contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code (CC)
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River, Ontario on December 2, 2017.
