7th annual Ski, Snowshoe or Fat Bike for SAH medical equipment

This is the seventh year for Ski the Trails in support of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF). The event is in partnership with the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club. Come on out Sunday, February 11th 2018! Participants are asked to gather pledges, support our local healthcare and ski, snowshoe or fat bike over 1500KMs collectively! Last year we crushed our 500KM goal by reaching 1,108KMs travelled.

All proceeds over the years have helped purchase medical equipment for our community Hospital. This year the event’s proceeds will help purchase new Fetal Telemetry Monitors. These monitors help track the vitals of an unborn child while the mother is in labour and preparing for birth. The technology ensures healthcare providers do not miss any information and the wireless technology helps mothers move freely from bed to chair and even allows them to shower or soak in a tub to manage pain. This event has raised over $115,000 over the years.

All participants are encouraged to raise money through pledges and then ski, snow shoe or fat bike the trails at Hiawatha Highlands to accomplish as many KMs as they can. Participation starts at 8am. Registration closes at noon but participants can tally their final KMs and meet at the Water Tower Inn for the post event pancake gathering, complimentary to all participants. If you would like to participate but can’t make that day, contact the Foundation office to find out how to take on the trails another day and still raise funds and count towards the total number of KMs travelled.

Co-chairs Drs. Curran and Dopp established this event in 2011 to help support the SAHF. “The event started off as a challenge to both of us, to collect pledges and take on all the trails. It quickly grew as colleagues, friends and people from the community wanted to join us. We love that it’s an event that not only help support healthcare, but encourages an active lifestyle.” says Dr. Curran.

Registration and pledge collecting for the event can be completed online.

Participants and donors can reach the site by visiting www.sahfoundation.com/ski.

Participants can register as an individual, team or family (two adults and no limit on number of children) and share with friends, family, through social media and email to reach their fundraising goal.

Individuals are asked to raise a minimum of $50 each. Children under 16 years of age can ski free as a member of a family. All participants will have a chance at some great prizes!
