LOCAL MAN CHARGED WITH HARASSMENT

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On January 5, 2018, at approximately 10:00 a.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a neighbour dispute related call on Ste Camillus Crescent in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

The complainant reported being constantly harassed by a male in the neighbourhood. After police investigation, the male was arrested and charged.

Joseph DONNELLY, 62 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario was charged with:

Criminal Harassment – beset and watch person known to complainant, contrary to section 264(2)(c) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 6, 2018.

MALE ARRESTED FOR FAILING TO ATTEND COURT

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On January 9, 2018, shortly after 12:30 p.m., a member from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment arrested a male under the strength of a warrant on Woodward Avenue in the Town of Blind River.

The warrant was issued on January 4, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River where the male failed to appear in court that day and failed to appear for fingerprinting on December 7, 2017.

As a result of the investigation, Edward MARTEL, 54 years of age from Blind River, Ontario was charged with:

Fail to Attend Court, contrary to section 145(2)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);

Fail to Appear/Comply with Appearance Notice, Promise to Appear or Recognizance-Identification of Criminals Act, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 1, 2018.

SUSPENDED DRIVER GETS CAUGHT

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On January 2, 2018, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Highway 108, in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Police conducted a traffic stop and investigation revealed the driver was suspended. This resulted in the male driver charged.

Keith GOFENKO, 46 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario was charged with:

Driving while suspended, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 7, 2018.

MAN CHARGED WITH SUSPEND DRIVE

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On January 2, 2018, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Saskatchewan Road, in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Police conducted a traffic stop and investigation revealed the driver was suspended. This resulted in the male driver charged.

Carl BURGER, 51 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario was charged with:

Driving while suspended, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 7, 2018.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH NO INSURANCE

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On January 2, 2018 at approximately 2:40 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Highway 108, in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Police checked a vehicle license plate and a traffic stop was initiated. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was not insured. Subsequently, the driver was charged and the vehicle was towed.

Sharon LAMARCHE, 58 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on March 7, 2018.
