Spadoni’s Celebrates their 100th Anniversary

It is with great enthusiasm that the owner of Spadoni’s Furniture, Alan Spadoni, announces the 100th Anniversary of the James Street business.

“With a rich history, we are happy to enter into our fourth generation of ownership.”

Grandfather Adolfo Spadoni immigrated to Canada in 1912 with a vision to provide for his family. Little did he know that his original James Street Hardware shop would turn into the furniture warehouse it now is. His honesty and excellent customer service were values he passed on to his son, Alfio, and his grandson, Alan. Alan recalls entering into the life of retail at the young age of twelve. His favourite moments were spending time with his Grandfather in his office; the same space where he now conducts the daily operations of Spadoni’s Furniture.

The original store was located on the corner of Cathcart and James Street and offered bicycle repair, hardware, and paint. In 1921, Adolfo purchased the building in which Spadoni’s currently operates, 185 James Street. Two post world war periods, the great depression, and a gas explosion in 1963 heavily impacted the establishment and jeopardized the existence of the business. Despite these trials, Alfio rebuilt Spadoni’s Furniture in 1965.

When he passed on in 2008, Alan purchased the business and
dedicated himself to applying the same level of customer service he was raised to provide.

To celebrate the legacy of his family business, Alan is pleased to offer the community of Sault Ste. Marie the opportunity to win one of ten $100 gift cards to use during their next furniture purchase. With brands including Ashley, Best Chair, Dreamstar Mattress and Frigidaire appliances, patrons can explore the four beautiful floors of the building and pick out complimentary pieces to match their own personal style.
