After dropping a 3-0 decision to the Soo Eagles last night at the John Rhodes, the Soo Thunderbirds will look to get back on the winning track this afternoon as they will take on the Espanola Express.
The Thunderbirds will not only play their second straight home game in less than 24 hours, but they will also close out their three-game weekend this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the John Rhodes.
Today is a battle of two West Division teams who are going in opposite directions.
The Thunderbirds enter this afternoon’s contest sitting in first place in the West Division with 27 wins, 9 losses, 2 overtime losses and 1 tie, good for 57 points, while the Express are at the bottom of the standings with a record of 1 win, 38 losses, 1 tie, 1 overtime loss and only 4 points.
The last time these two clubs met was back on Sunday, December 3rd at the John Rhodes, when the Thunderbirds defeated them by a score of 7-2.
Thunderbirds defenceman Robert Calisti, who will not be in the lineup for this afternoon’s game due to a suspension, scored his first career two-goal game against the Express back on December 3rd.
Defenceman Ryan Lawrence, who is in his first season with the Thunderbirds, is turning 20 years old today.
The Dewitt, Michigan native who is the latest member of the club to celebrate a birthday, has 2 goals and 8 points through 38 games.
Both of his goals this season have come against the Espanola Express.
