The International Bridge Administration announced that one-way traffic crossings of the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie totaled 99,606 for the month of January 2018.

This figure represents an increase of 6.4%, a difference of 5,974 crossings as compared to January 2017.

Here is the drill down of one-way crossing statistics:

Full-Fare Passenger Cars: 33,663

Commuter Fare: 56,450

Car Pulling Trailers: 1,756

Commercial Trucks: 7,737

Commuter traffic and full fare passenger cars are showing an increase over January of 2017, largely in part to the strength of the Canadian dollar.

Commercial traffic is also staying strong, starting off the 2018 year with positive growth.

The International Bridge self-funds operations with toll revenue. Operations include the bridge structure, the Bridge Authority plaza, all maintenance facilities, and all ongoing building support costs and maintenance for the Canada Border Services Agency facility.

As for the construction of the Canadian Plaza Redevelopment Project, it is a Canadian capital project which is financed separately by The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL), through the Canadian Gateways and Border Crossings Fund.

More than 99,862,910 million vehicles have crossed the International Bridge sinceopening in 1962.

It is anticipated that we will surpass 100 million crossings in March of 2018.
