Update: Freezing Rain Warning in Effect

Update: Environment Canada has now ended the freezing rain warning

The wild temperature swings continue into the last week of February and into March and that could also mean a mix of precipitation. The temperatures will hover around the freezing mark when a band of rain moves into the area Sunday, but it could also fall as freezing rain.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay
Freezing rain likely on Sunday.

A fast-moving low pressure system over Missouri this afternoon will cross the Great Lakes tonight into Sunday. It will spread freezing rain or ice pellets into the region beginning late tonight. Several hours of freezing rain are possible before a changeover to brief rain later Sunday morning.

Roads and other cold untreated surfaces will likely become slippery Sunday morning before temperatures rise above freezing during the day.

Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
