Male arrested for second degree murder

Joshua McCabe, Nov. 2017/Facebook

On February 10th, 2018 at approximately 4:00 a.m. officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a call for service regarding a deceased male on Morin Street.

Initial information led officers to a residence in the 400 block of Morin Street where 30 year old Joshua McCabe was taken into custody.

It is alleged that the accused engaged in an altercation with the victim, 23 year old Christopher Swanson of Sault Ste. Marie.

During the altercation the accused shot the victim and soon after he succumbed to those injuries.

Officers do not believe that this was a random occurrence; however the relationship between the victim and the accused is still under investigation.

Mr. McCabe was taken into custody and has been charged with one count of second degree murder.  He will appear in bail court today.

  1. I would bet my bank account that this was drug related.
Condolences to the young man’s family who lost his life.
Whoever had the illegally loaded gun in the house will surely pay.

  2. Everyone is supposed to get bail. Because everyone is supposed to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Unless the crown can prove they should be held until trial based on one of three grounds. In the Sault you are guilty as soon as your name is printed for being arrested though.

  3. I wouldn’t say regardless of the situation – were any of us there? Do we know what had actually taken place? I have heard various stories of what had transpired and honestly feel that none of us should make judgements until we know the full story.

  4. Anyone who can sit here and defend a junkie who tried to rob and kill someone to get his next fix is disgusting. The kid did what any person would do in that situation and defended his house and family. You are all sickening.

      • I’m not saying selling drugs is okay but when a stupid junkie comes in your house hacking your father up with a machete you and everyone else would do the same to defend them. End of story

        • You are not the boss of me. lol So the story shall continue…he was not slashed up by the blade end of the machete like you are making it sound, no hacking at flesh was involved lol, he was hit with the handle of the machete. Still not a nice thing to do, but…there just happened to be a loaded handgun handy? They BOTH played with fire.
But, damn, a 23 kid is dead.
Shot to death. In the Soo.

          • You must be a special kind of stupid if you expect us to buy the load of fertilizer you are trying to sell here………really?, He held the machete by the blade and used it to beat the sleeping 50 years plus man, not to mention that he had two other thugs with him and all three of them were beating this man, and where does it say that he was shot with a hand gun. And all these other people saying what a good guy he was, good guys don’t break into other people’s homes and attack a sleeping man with a machete………………GIVE YOUR HEAD A SHAKE

        • My heads a shakin. Not doing anything for me tho. Umm, have you ever seen a machete? You don’t hold the blade to hit someone with the handle! You may need to give your head a shake!
The handle is quite large, very easy to hold handle and hit with handle. Anyway, not the point. You are again making innocents out of demons, good guys also don’t sell meth and the hard stuff around the clock with their father sleeping on the couch!! He sure sounds like a complete innocent in all this doesn’t he? Loaded gun, for ….hunting squirrels? And the photo used of McCabe is not that old, and he is much skinnier and smaller now because: drugs. At least maybe he will clean up in jail. However I do agree that charges may be reduced because of the way it started, to maybe manslaughter and gun charges for McCabe. That still leaves one helluva young kid of only 23 dead.

        • Exactly!! I have to agree, it is sad that the kid was killed however we dont know the whole story!! The guy with the gun may have been acting in self-defense for him and his father.

  5. So many quick to judge there are families involved once again people are the judges…keep your negativity to yourselves till the truth is told ..all I know if you choose to make a bad choice and come in my house to harm my family I know what my choice would be…

  6. Chris was a good kids no one deserves to be shot. I know the family from wawa ..and praying for his family
..yes you are right many more will get kill on this town to much drug

  7. Just a note to clarify- this isn’t ‘our’ report. This is a media release issued by the Sault police that was sent to all media outlets today. The police are updating their initial release issued on the weekend about the death on Morin Street.

  8. First all you dumb sh*ts. you have no clue what you are talking about. You dont know how it happened. That guy who was shoot, got what he deserved. he was hacking up the guys dad of the house that they broke into with a machete and he was just sleeping on the couch. That guy who was shoot and two other pieces of shit That broke into the house and were trying to kill his dad and josh saved him. I hope that you idiots would try to save one your familly members but by your comments i can tell that you’re a bunch of mouth breathing idiots that would probably alow them to be killed and run away. there is such ^*%**^ reporting done in this city its unbelievable. It’s just shameful how story’s are reported.

  9. Love all these sjw’s coming out of the woodwork, assuming a whole story based off a police report put on a gossip site intended to look like legit news.

Know the whole story before you call someone’s guilt out. There is no story here, just a few facts. Grow up Sault St Marie.

  10. Just another wannabe gangsta who this town will be better off without.
Hopefully he will get a just sentence for murder with a firearm.
Condolences to the young man’s family who’s life was so senselessly taken, however, sadly it is not the first and will not be the last in this growing age of drugs and violence.

    • You must be $#%&%#& lady. you have no clue wtf you’re talking about. those idiots broke into his house with machetes and were hacking up the guys dad of the house that they broke into while he was sleeping on a couch and the guy saved his dads life by shooting one of those waste of skin goofs so shut your mouth unless you know what youre talking about end of story.

      • LOL he deserves to ROT IN JAIL FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE!!!!!! he took my best friend away from us , one of the kindess souls I know , I hope he spends the rest of his life sitting in a cell thinking about the beautiful life he took!!!!

        • Correct me if I’m wrong but this junkie ( who wasn’t alone) tried to rob them with weapons….I’d shoot the junkie too. Chris deserved this especially since it wasn’t the first time he tried to rob someone or commit armed assault no

      • If this was the case why would it not say “Intruder shot in home invasion”?
BTW, Why did he just happen to have an unsafely stored, loaded firearm in the house?
I’ll believe you when I see a “Man acquitted in home invasion shooting” headline.

          • If this was Texas I’m not sure he would even be in jail..but it’s not and consideration should be taken into account by the Crown Attorney that the victim entered the home with a weapon and malicious intent. Anyone who knew the accused knows he would never do this unless his loved one’s life was in danger. Although my heart goes out to the family of the victim.
