With the end of the academic year quickly approaching and another exciting hockey season ended, the Sault College Cougars are honoured to announce that its men’s hockey team is now an affiliate member of the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC). The MCHC is an American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 3 conference made up of smaller colleges and universities in the state of Michigan. Sault College has the great pleasure of being the first team from Ontario in the MCHC. The MCHC has a tradition of successful programs at the national level, and as an affiliate of the conference Sault College looks to help to contribute to this historical success.
With this new affiliation, the Cougars are poised to bring some entertaining collegiate hockey to the City of Sault Ste. Marie. Matt Trainor, Director of Student Services at Sault College said “we’re very pleased to become an affiliate member of the MCHC for the 2018/19 ACHA season. Our membership improves our ability to schedule games against competitive teams that have consistently competed in the ACHA Regionals and Nationals. The MCHC group was very welcoming to our team and we look forward to our upcoming games within this conference.” Over the past academic year, Sault College has competed in the ACHA providing the College and the competition with a great experience.
In the 2018/2019 season the Cougars look to continue their performance and improve on what was already a successful year in the ACHA. With our addition into the MCHC, there will be tougher competition as the MCHC has historically been a successful conference nationally in the ACHA; however the Cougars are up to the challenge! The MCHC has produced eleven National Championship teams, the most of any Division 3 conference.
Sault College is honoured to have the opportunity to compete in such a prestigious conference in the 2018/19 season. We’re looking forward to another exciting hockey season!
