Guzzo Electrical Contracting, originally Walter Guzzo Electrical Contracting, was started by Walter Guzzo back in 1990 when he decided it was time in his career to forge out on his own. Over the years, Walter was proud to have his son Gustin take interest in his trade to follow in his footsteps.
Gustin Guzzo started out working along side his father during the summer months in Grade 9 all the way through high school until taking advantage of a coop placement in Grade 12. In 2006, Gustin officially started his apprenticeship which lasted 4 years. While his father focused on commercial projects, Gustin focused on the residential market with the majority of the work centered around rough ins and finishing of new homes.
In 2010 Gustin decided to take a position with another local contractor, Topline Electric Limited, to broaden his experience outside of working with his father. Over the next 4 years he gained experience from a variety of larger commercial projects as well as what was involved in managing a team of co-workers.
In October 2014, Walter decided it was time to slow down and semi retire. He approached his son about taking over the family business. Gratefully accepting, Gustin again followed in his father’s footsteps.
Gustin forged out using his own personal truck with some odd tools passed down by his father. He worked from his home and began building on the client base passed down. A short time later, Gustin was able to grow the business to the point that he needed to hire a couple of employees and incorporate the business. Gustin wanted to keep the family name and Guzzo Electrical Contracting was born.
Now in 2018, Guzzo Electrical Contracting has grown to 10 employees, 6 vehicles and operating from their new shop at 570 Dundas Street. In addition to becoming experts in the residential market, they also specialize in a variety of commercial applications.
The team at Guzzo Electrical Contracting takes great pride in providing a professional experience from start to finish. On the residential side, a significant portion of their business includes new home wiring, renovations, panel upgrades and other small jobs like new light fixtures and bathroom exhaust fans. On the commercial side, the rising cost of electricity has the team busy saving businesses money by upgrading buildings to more efficient LED lighting.
Although Gustin is now a full owner of the business, his father Walter still enjoys helping out on larger jobs as a master electrician during the Spring and Summer months. When asked what’s next, Gustin told SaultOnline that he would like to purchase their own shop and add a bucket truck to their growing fleet of vehicles. In addition to supporting Easter Seals Kids during their annual Snowarama event as well as a variety of kids sporting initiatives, he would like to continue supporting other causes in the Community.
“I couldn’t have come this far without the amazing support of all our clients and my team providing them with professional experience from start to finish, contributing to the company’s growth over the past 4 years. Thank you all!”, stated Gustin Guzzo.
