Life Threatening Injuries in Great Northern Road Collision


Today at approximately 9:30 officers with the Traffic Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Great Northern Road and Northern Avenue.

A Green Hyundai Santa Fe carrying a driver and one passenger was travelling Northbound on Great Northern Road and attempted to turn Westbound onto Northern Avenue. At that time, a red Chevrolet Avalanche with one driver was travelling Southbound on Great Northern Road approaching the same intersection.

The Santa Fe turned in front of the oncoming Avalanche and the two vehicles collided in the intersection. The passenger of the Santa Fe, an 87 year old female from Sault Ste. Marie was taken to the hospital via ambulance with life threatening injuries while the other 2 persons involved were taken to the hospital via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Santa Fe, an 88 year old male from Sault Ste. Marie was issued a provincial offences notice for failure to yield to traffic on a through highway. The affected area on Great Northern Road is now open to traffic.
