Rector Machine Works Capitalizes on 80 Years of Experience at Mining Mecca in Toronto

Rector was one of 100 organizations representing the region at the FedNor-funded Northern Ontario Showcase pavilion at Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC)

The PDAC’s International Convention took place in Toronto, March 4–7, 2018 and is one of the world’s leading convention and trade show for companies and organizations connected with mining and mineral exploration.

Each year, the event brings together approximately 1,000 exhibitors and over 24,000 representatives from 130 countries.
Rector Machine Works has a long history in Northern Ontario.

Hervey Rector Sr. and his wife Loretta began their journey into the machine shop business in Espanola Ontario in the 1930s.

The Rector’s relocated to Sault Ste. Marie in 1943, first operating out of their home on Charles Street and then moving in 1952 to Wellington Street West.

Upon the death of Herv Sr. in 1967, son Herv Jr. and wife Sandi took over and continue to run the business today with their children Mark – Operations Team Leader, Michelle – Executive Assistant, David – President and David’s wife Karen – Office Team Leader, at their current location on Sackville Road.

Under the family managment Rector’s has successfully expanded operations to include work in the Steel, Forestry, Power Generation, Mining and Pulp and Paper industries.

As the first machine shop in Sault Ste. Marie to be ISO certified, Rector’s is diversified and provides many areas of service.

The Four Divisions include:

  • Machine Shop
  • Welding and Fabrication
  • Driveline and Balance
  • Millwrighting

Rector Machine Works is a one stop shop for clients seeking machining and industrial contracting, as well as welding and fabrication services.
