It was a beautifully sunny weekend for the first annual Honda Cup, sponsored by Great Lakes Honda, at Searchmont this weekend. Three races took place over Saturday and Sunday with 107 skiers in four age categories; Under 6 year olds (U6), Under 8 year olds (U8), Under 10 year olds (U10) and Under 12 year olds (U12). The skiers’ points were calculated to find the team winner of this event, and Searchmont came out on top!
Medals were given out to the top three racers in each category and ribbons were presented to the top ten by Great Lakes Honda sponsor Francine Floreani and retiring race secretary Corrine Mezzomo.
The U10 and U12 girls had two Sprint GS races Saturday morning. In the first race Searchmont swept the U10 podium with Katelyn Real, Kara DeRosario, and Lara Fraser in the top three places respectively. Malaya Schikofsky, Ella Felice and Elinor Bateman placed 5th, 7th, and 8th. In the U12 category Emily Edgar won silver while, Lily Real, Emily Bateman and Tia Park Lee placed 4th, 5th and 6th and Miila Gordon finished 8th.
In their second race, results were similar. Katelyn Real, Kara DeRosario, and Lara Fraser again swept the podium in the U10 division, again in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively! Malaya Schikofsky got the 4th spot, Ella Felice came in 6th, and Elinor Bateman placed 8th. For the U12s Emily Edgar got her second silver, Lily Real captured 4th, Emily Bateman got 5th, Miila Gordon came in 7th, and Samantha Cho got a 10th place ribbon.
Similarly, two Sprint GS races were held in the morning for the U10 and U12 boys. In the first race in the U10 division Searchmont took the top 6 places with Brady Real (1st), Gabrial Bifano (2nd), Charlie McMaster (3rd), Blake Cond(4th), Cruz Dias (5th), and Colton DeRosario (6th) and Emmett Kreps was 10th. Jack Nori claimed gold for the U12 boys and Johnny Lesnick captured bronze. Jacob Neilsen got 6th and Jacob Schikofsky came in 9th.
In their second race, the U10 boys again swept the podium with Brady Real getting gold, Charlie McMaster in silver and Gabrial Bifano in the bronze position. Blake Cond finished 4th, Colton DeRosario placed 6th, Cruz Dias came in 7th, and Emmett Kreps brought home a 10th place ribbon. In the U12 division Jack Nori grabbed gold for a second time, Johnny Lesnick placed 4th, Jacob Neilsen claimed 7th spot, and Jacob Schikofsky placed 9th.
The afternoon held two GS races for the younger athletes. In the first race of the U6 Girl’s division, Kassandra Real medaled gold. In the U8 division, Maelee Lesnick earned the gold, Maggie Hendrie won bronze, Teagan Derbyshire placed 4th, and Andra Annett placed 8th while Alexa Bisceglia was in 10th place. In their second race, Kassandra Real got silver in the U6 division. For the U8’s Maelee Lesnick and Maggie Hendrie earned silver and bronze. Andra Annett placed 8th and Alexa Bisceglia came in 10th.
In the U6 boy’s GS races on Saturday afternoon, Beau Derbyshire earned a silver in his first race. For the U8 boys Reid Gordon won a silver medal. Bobby Real skied for a bronze medal, Richard Cond placed 4th, and Daniel Fraser saw an 6th place finish. In their second race of Saturday Beau Derbyshire got a bronze medal for the U6’s. In the U8 division, Reid Gordon won gold and Lucas McMaster captured a bronze. Bobby Real came in 5th, followed by Richard Cond in 6th, and Daniel Fraser in 10th.
Sunday was a tough day for Searchmont athletes as there were many heartbreaking falls and missed gates. In the girl’s U6 category Kassandra Real won gold. In the U8 division Maelee Lesnick won silver, Teagan Derbyshire got bronze, Maggie Hendrie placed 4th, and Alexa Bisceglia placed 9th. For the U10s Lara Fraser won a silver medal, Ella Felice won bronze, Malaya Schikofsky placed 5th and Elinor Bateman was 7th. In the U12 category, Lily Real took bronze, while Emily Bateman placed 4th.
In the boys’ division, the U8 boys did very well with Reid Gordon taking gold and Lucas McMaster getting the bronze. Bobby Real came in 5th, Richard Cond placed 6th, and Daniel Fraser was 9th. For the U10 boys, Brady Real completed his golden trio for the weekend. Colton DeRosario was behind him with bronze. Emmet Kreps was 5th, and William Foster skied into 8th place. Jack Nori had a golden weekend with his third gold in the U12 division. Jacob Neilsen came in 4th, and Jacob Schikofsky came in 6th.
