City Police Investigating Multiple Sexual Assaults

Officers with the Investigation Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are currently investigating 3 separate reports of sexual assault.

Three adult female victims have recently reported that they were drugged and then sexually assaulted in the central downtown area of town.  In at least one of the cases the offender(s) was not known to the victim.  A suspect was described as a middle aged Caucasian male with an average build.  The male was between 5’8” and 6’ tall with short brown hair.

Officers are encouraging residents to be vigilant and look out for the safety of one another.  There are a number of safety tips that residents can use to help increase their own personal level of safety including;

Travel in groups and carry a cellular phone if possible, Always let a trusted friend or family member know where you will be and when you will return, Be aware of your surroundings  and attract attention to yourself if you become fearful, Avoid isolated areas and only travel in well-lit area, Be cautious with the consumption of alcohol and/or drugs and do not accept these from strangers
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is committed to the safety of the public.  By working together with our partners and members of the community we can ensure the safety of all residents.
