The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board Announces EarlyON Child and Family Centres
Ontario is making it easier for children and their families to access high quality Early Years programming and services with the launch of EarlyON Child and Family Centres across the province. With a joint investment of 140 million dollars from both the Federal and Provincial governments, the Ministry of Education is transforming Ministry-funded child and family programs into an increasingly integrated, cohesive system of services and supports for children ages 0-6 and their parents and caregivers.
Former Family Support Programs, Parenting and Family Literacy Centres, and Ontario Early Years Centres (known in Sault Ste. Marie as Best Start Hubs) will now be known as EarlyON Child and Family Centres.
The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (Social Services) is responsible for the local management of the EarlyON system as part of their responsibility for the service system management of child care and other human services. Throughout 2017, Social Services worked with consultants, in partnership with the community, to analyze and examine data and feedback to develop an implementation plan for EarlyON service delivery.
In response to identified community priorities and requests, Social Services and local Service Providers, Child Care Algoma and Prince Township Parent Child Resource Centre, are building on existing neighborhood sites as well as increasing availability of evening and weekend hours of service to better accommodate working parents.
EarlyON Child and Family Centres are open to all families across Ontario, providing play- and inquiry-based programs for young children, as well as support, advice, personal connections, and a network of resources for parents and caregivers.
“The DSSMSSAB Board is proud of the dedication of our Social Services staff and community partners in ensuring that resources are used effectively to provide these valuable services to children and parents in the Sault Ste. Marie District,” said Janet Gawne, Board Chair.
