No Blackboards in Sight at the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of RTO/ERO, District 3


It was a full house at the Royal Canadian Legion on Great Northern Rd Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018 for the 50th Anniversary celebration and General Meeting of RTO/ERO – Retired Teachers Ontario.

Gary Wills received the prestigiousJune Szeman Award for Outstanding Leadership. The Award was created by RTO-ERO to recognize members of each District for their leadership and exceptional work in furthering the goals of RTO/ERO. April 3,2018.

Members of RTO/ERO – District 3, which encompasses the Algoma District, were out in full force to mark their 46th year as an organization with a luncheon, and to acknowledge the longevity and advocacy work of RTO/ERO.

“As part of the 50th celebration of RTO/ERO as an organization, District 3 members have directed a $2000 donation to the establishment of a pediatric wing at ARCH.” shared Bernice Whalen, RTO District 3, Goodwill Committee.

“The needs of children have been at the heart of teaching as a vocation. Thus the local of RTO-ERO District 3 feel that this is an opportunity to support the pediatric wing and reinforces what is at the hub of the lives of educators – children.”

Lee Rendell – Fund Development Manager at ARCH, accepted the donation stating, “Your support really does make an impact on local families.” Rendell acknowledged the numerous volunteers at ARCH, many of whom were in attendance at the RTO/ERO luncheon.

It’s not a celebration without cake.

A special award presentation was made to District 3 member, Gary Wills. “This award is named after (late) June Szeman, a former and much respected provincial  president of RTO.” stated Bernice Whalen. “As part of the 50th celebration, the June Szeman Award has been created by RTO-ERO to recognize members of each District for their leadership and exceptional work in furthering the goals of RTO/ERO at the District level.”
