PITCHER, Fredrick Gordon


(January 22, 1925-April 3, 2018) -With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Fred in the presence of loving family at Sault Area Hospital on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 after a brief illness.

Beloved husband of Amelia (Prokop) for over 61 years.Loving and much loved father of Elaine Pitcher (Dave Galotta).

Son of the late George and Ada Pitcher. Predeceased by his brothers, sisters and their spouses: Clarice Mathieu (Charles), Roy (Luella), Alberta Elliott (Leslie), Gwen Callison (Grover) and George.

Also predeceased by his Brothers-in-law Lloyd (June) and Stanley Prokop. Fred will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

He served in the R.C.N.V. R. from 1943 to 1946, returning to work at Algoma Steel until his retirement in 1982, after which he and Amelia enjoyed winter months in Dunedin, Florida.

Devoted to his family, Fred’s happiest times were summers spent together at the cottage at Haviland Bay over a span of almost 60 years, where he immensely enjoyed time on the water sailing, and also fishing with his longtime friends.

His passing leaves a huge void in our family and our memories of times shared will be treasured forever.

At Fred’s request a private funeral service was held at Arthur Funeral Home –Barton and Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East, 705-759-2522) followed by interment in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation are asked to consider Fred’s favourite charities, Sault Area Hospital – Renal Dialysis Fund, or ARCH.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors and hospital emergency staff who attended to Fred over the years, with special thanks to Dr. Chris Bruni, Jennifer and Sharon for their compassion and care.
