1st Run for Change draws people of all ages

The first ever Run for Change kicked off a very successful start to what organizers hope will be an annual event this past Saturday. Hosted by Strong Minds, 87 participants of all ages took advantage of a gorgeous day to either walk or run 5 kilometers along the waterfront, starting at the Pavilion going along our waterfront past the Mill Market up the locks and back.

“Everyone has their own journey with a story, and it was beautiful to see our community join together and support each other.  Strong Minds first-ever Run for Change charity event was a great success.” Amanda Lambert, Registered Health And Exercise Practitioner and CEO of Strong Minds

Including those who couldn’t attend, over 100 participants helped to raise $1,401.56 with the majority of the proceeds donated to the Sault Area Hospital’s Mental Health Programs and a portion to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

Strong Minds is a health and wellness service offering in-home personal training and group training in and around Sault Ste. Marie. Strong Minds specializes in fitness based treatment and is an advocate for mental health and addictions awareness. The organization aims to be a conduit of support and growth within the community, raising the bar on personal fitness goals both physical and mental.

Amanda Lambert, Registered Health And Exercise Practitioner and CEO of Strong Minds, told SaultOnline, “I wanted to do this event to create awareness on mental health and addictions. Mental health awareness week is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, so we thought it would be a great idea to have something that the community can get involved in and support.

There are so many statistics that show how much physical activity and exercise can improve our mental health so we figured why not put something together that the whole community can be involved in.”
