A New Leash On Life!

Canadians and their four-legged “best friends” are preparing to walk together for the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides on Sunday, May 27th. This year’s walk is at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion and registration starts at 10:00 a.m. with the walk starting at 11:00 a.m. (rain or shine!). The Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides helps to raise, train and place service dogs with Canadians who have a medical or physical disability. The event is dog-friendly, but you do not need a dog to participate. Come out and visit the vendors, get some exercise and support a great cause!

This walk is being organized by the SSM Lions Club and other local volunteers, with support from Lions Foundation of Canada. Held annually, the Walk has raised more than $15 million over the years. Thanks to the generous support of the title sponsor Pet Valu, 100% of the funds raised by each walker will go directly towards six Dog Guide programs:

·       Canine Vision Dog Guides, for people who are blind or visually impaired

·       Hearing Ear Dog Guides, for people who are deaf or hard of hearing

·       Service Dog Guides, for people with a physical disability

·       Seizure Response Dog Guides, for people who have epilepsy

·       Autism Assistance Dog Guides, for children who have autism

·       Diabetic Alert Dog Guides, for people who have type 1 diabetes with hypoglycemic unawareness

It costs $25,000 to breed, train and match a life-changing Dog Guide with a person or family.  They are provided free of charge to qualifying applicants. Lions Foundation of Canada receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of Canadians to make this mission possible. This is why the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides is so important.

By participating in the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides, you can help provide life-changing Dog Guides to Canadians with disabilities. For more information, to find the Walk in the Sault and register, or to make a donation, please visit www.walkfordogguides.com.
