The Early On Child and Family Centre at St. Basil’s School opened today. The centre is one of five main centres in the city that combines former Family Support Programs, Parenting and Family Literacy Centres and Best Start Hubs.  The other sites will open over the next two weeks.

The centres are open to the public, free of charge, and provide a welcoming place for parents, caregivers and children to connect with others  while learning and playing. The centre will offer a range of fun activities for children including reading, storytelling and games.

The centres aren’t just about play. Parents can also get advice from professionals in early childhood development and find out about other family services in the community. Parenting advice is also part of the centre’s program.

Carla Fairbrother, Director of Early Years Services says “Its a great place for parents to connect.”  The centres will continually seek feedback from parents and caregivers to ensure that the centres are meeting the needs of the families.
