May 7th 2018 – Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie & the District of Algoma is hosting their 3rd Annual Peace Officer Awards on Thursday, May 24, 2018.
In 1998, this event operated as the Police Services Awards Luncheon, and was initially launched to acknowledge the valuable contributions of our districts police services to the business community.
The event focused on business protection and crime prevention issues. From recognizing each agency as a whole, the Awards eventually began honouring an officer from each service for a significant achievement, or for an exceptional performance.
In 2016, Crime Stoppers took over hosting the Awards and with the support and encouragement of our local sponsors, we expanded the awards ceremony to also include three additional law enforcement agencies in our program, by incorporating their partners at the Canada Border Services Agency, the Algoma Treatment & Remand Centre, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. This expansion forced the renaming of the event, to the Peace Officer Awards.
Admission is by invitation only. Crime Stoppers is inviting all local businesses to attend this event. If your business would like to attend, please visit the Crimestoppers website for seat or table prices and information.
Each detachment, the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre, Anishinabek Police Services, Canadian Border Services Agency, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Sault Ste. Marie Police Services, Ontario Provincial Police, and Sault Crime Stoppers will be awarding an officer or group for helping within the community and thanking them for their outstanding services.
All of the proceeds from this event will stay local to assist in supporting the mandate of the Crime Stoppers Program.
