With the NHL Scouting Combine currently in session this week in Buffalo, New York, there are two members of the Soo Greyhounds that are currently down there and are preparing for the upcoming draft next June.
Second year forward Barrett Hayton and rookie defenceman Rasmus Sandin are the two Soo Greyhounds that currently in Buffalo right now and are both expected to be first round picks in this year’s NHL Entry Draft.
Hayton, who is ranked 9th on the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings List, has 30 goals and 87 points in 126 regular season games with the Hounds.
The Peterborough, Ontario native, who was selected 9th overall during the 2016 OHL Priority Selection, has 10 goals and 23 points in 33 career playoff games with the Soo.
Sandin, who is ranked 11th on the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings List, was selected by the Hounds 52nd overall during the 2017 CHL Import Draft, but did not suit up with the club until October 27th.
In his first season with the Hounds, the Uppsala, Sweden native led all OHL rookie defencemen in goals (12), assists (33) and points (45) in 51 games played the 2017-2018 regular season.
Sandin also led all OHL rookies in scoring during the 2018 postseason, with 1 goal and 13 points in 24 playoff games.
Both Hayton and Sandin were also members for Team Cherry at the 2018 CHL Top Prospects Game, which was held in Guelph, Ontario, back on January 25th.
During that game, Hayton recorded two assists while Sandin set up one to help lead Team Cherry defeat Team Orr by a score of 7-4.
The NHL Scouting Combine is a chance for teams to meet with top draft eligible players face to face and interview them.
The players will also be physically tested in an off-ice setting.
