While the May long weekend brings many families and friends together, the Sault Fire Services will use this time to start their annual initiative to make sure there are many more gatherings for you and your loved ones for years to come.
The In-Service Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Testing Program will see firefighters knocking on doors of homes to check and make sure that all safety devices are properly functioning. These inspections will start on Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:30 p.m.. The fire department plan on running a 6:30 p.m. start time, on a Monday – Thursday basis.
The in-home checks will be used to ensure all carbon monoxide and smoke detectors work properly, as well as taking a look at the devices expiration date and confirming it has not passed.
Public Education Officer Aaron Gravelle has stated “During this time, firefighters will not issue ticket violations, rather they will check the safety and protection systems in homes.”, ensuring that they are taking residences safety and making it a number one priority.
The program will have a total run time of May 22nd until September 27th 2018. This will transition into Fire Prevention Week in October.
Sault Fire Services are also taking this time to encourage homeowners to perform monthly checks on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure everyone in the home remains safe.
