On Friday, May 11 2018, Lou and Sandra Turco filed their nomination papers at the City Clerk’s office for the upcoming Municipal Election to be held Monday, October 22, 2018 in Sault Ste. Marie.
Lou has served as the Councillor for Ward 4 in Sault Ste. Marie since 2000 and will be seeking his sixth term on City Council but this time in the NEW Ward 2. Sandra will be seeking her sixth term as a Catholic School Trustee for the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board. Both Lou and Sandra were first elected in November, 2000.
“I am very honoured and privileged to continue to serve the residents of Ward 4 and with the new restructuring of the Ward system in Sault Ste Marie, it was a difficult decision to make as I have served the constituents of the current Ward 4 for the past 18 years. I have made the decision to run in the NEW Ward 2 where my home is and also many of my current Ward 4 constituents who will still reside from West Street to Pim Street. Over the next few months leading up the election, I look forward to visiting with the voters who will be residing in the NEW Ward 2” states Lou.
Lou serves as council representative on many local boards and provincial boards including serving as a director on the Large Urban Caucus of AMO (Association of Municipalities of Ontario) (2016-2018 term), member for Sault Ste. Marie’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, a board member of DSSAB (Sault Ste Marie District Social Services Administration Board) to name a few. He is also a long-time Associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 25.
Sandra states: “I have enjoyed my five terms as a trustee with the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board and look forward to making the best decisions for our greatest asset, our children.” Sandra has served on many volunteer committees over the past 40 years.
