On June 22nd in Laird Township, the roar of the engines hit the track after a two-year hiatus in front of a full grandstand with 25 cars and eight buses preparing to take the track to entertain race fans in Northern Ontario at Superior Motorplex in the 2018 Superior Motorplex Modified Twin 25 Season Opener.
The 2018 season opener hit the track with the Modified Four Car Dash with #3 Kevin Oicle (Sault Ste Marie, ON) winning ahead of # 90 Jay Palumbo (Goulais River, ON). #84 Mark Laakso (Echo Bay, ON) and #21 Jake Irwin rounding out the four-car dash field.
In the ABC Factory Stock division, four cars took part in the dash with youngster #77 Chase Wilson (Sault Ste Marie, ON) topping the field with #21K Kevin Errington (Sault Ste Marie, ON), #67 Jarritt Varcoe (Sault Ste Marie, ON) rounding out the dash with #88 Gerald Archer (Sault Ste Marie, ON) leaving the track before the checkered flag dropped.
In the Super Late Model four car dash, Barbeau, Michigan native #7 Josh Ware brought him the win followed by young gun #61 Dustin Jackson (Sault Ste Marie, ON), #94 Jay Palumbo and #46 Dan Brynes (Sault Ste Marie, ON).
On Friday evening in the Super Late Model feature, Barbeau, Michigan native #7 Josh Ware held off young gun #61 Dustin Jackson to take home the 2018 season opener Super Late Model feature. #94 Jay Palumbo crossed the checkered line for third followed by #50 Rob Hiiemaa, #100R Ron Raynor and #46 Dan Brynes rounding out the field.
In the first 25 lap feature for the Modified’s #7 Josh Ware captured his second of three wins of the evening with holding off #90 Jay Palumbo. Echo Bay’s #84 Mark Laakso finished third in the first feature of the evening. Veteran driver #3 Kevin Oicle rounded out the top three while #28 Mark Propelia, #4 Mike Carbone, #XX Nick Kozak and #21 Jake Irwin rounded out the field respectively.
In the ABC Factory Stock Feature, #21K Kevin Errington held off #67 Jarritt Varcoe for the first ABC Factory Stock victory of the 2018 season. Echo Bay’s Jerry Ross finished third ahead of #77 Chase Wilson. Veteran driver # 88 Gerald Archer drove to a fourth-place finish with #52 Jon Diodati in his first season as an ABC Factory Stock driver coming across the line in fifth. Diodati moved up to the ABC division after driving the last few seasons in the 4 Cylinder division.
In the second Modified feature of the evening, Barbeau’s #7 Josh Ware brought home his third win of the night again edging Goulais River’s #90 Jay Palumbo. Kevin Oicle finished with his second third in the Modified field Friday evening with #28 Mark Propelia coming in fourth. #21 Jake Irwin, #84 Mark Laakso, #XX Nick Kozak, #88 Randy Lapossie and #4 Mike Carbone finished fourth through ninth to round out the 2018 Superior Motorplex season opener.
