The North Bay Stingers, Sudbury Shamrocks and the Soo Blacksox met up for some Northern Elite League play. It was a hot weekend with temperatures reaching the 25 plus mark. It was also an exciting weekend of baseball. Each team played 4 games over the weekend and we saw lots of baseball action.
The North Bay Stingers rolled into town with the youngest of the 3 teams. Being short a few of their regular players required some mosquito calls ups to join the team which offered some great experience for these young players. It was a rough weekend offensively for the Stingers but they persevered to come together as a team lead by their 05 veterans Vaughn Thompson (34) and Kayden Dionne (10). Thompson and Dionne were the true spirit of leadership encouraging and commending teammates all weekend. Although the scores were not what they had in mind they came away with many positives and good vibes for the weeks to come as they prepare for our next meeting in North Bay at the end of July. Good luck to the Stingers and see you in months time.
The Sudbury Shamrocks came into the weekend coming off a tournament win in Southern Ontario. The Shamrocks were successful this weekend with strong pitching and timely hitting which included a go ahead single in extra innings for Zoe Rienguette (16). With 2 wins off the Stingers and a split with the Blacksox, the Shamrocks looked happy with their weekend play. All players played a great weekend of baseball. Strong pitching from Ethan Morris (24) and Nathan Gravel (15) helped pave the way. Zoe Rienguette led the team offensively with 8 hits over the weekend. Sudbury will be joining the Black Sox in North Bay at the end of July for more Northern Elite League action. Good luck to the Shamrocks and see you next month.
The Soo Blacksox welcomed the Stingers and Shamrocks into town for some Northern Elite League action. Its the first of 3 weekends of baseball each team hosting their own weekend. The Sox had a successful weekend with a 3 and 1 record losing their final game in a 2-1 extra inning nail biter to the Shamrocks. A real team effort all hands were on deck for the games as multiple pitchers saw action this weekend. Connor Bruzas (11) and Cole Masse (6) led the way on the hill throwing 5 innings each, with 5 and 9 strikeouts respectively. On the offensive side of the plate Ty Beaupre (16), Gavin Lamming (17) and Jayce Prgomet (99) had 4 plus hits on the weekend. The Blacksox are looking forward to their next test in Northbay next month against these same 2 teams.
