Highway Re-Opened After Fatal Accident on Hwy 11/17 East of Iron Bridge.

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON) – On June 22, 2018, at approximately 1:26 p.m., East Algoma officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in the Municipality of Huron Shores, Ontario. A tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle collided. The OPP have confirmed that the driver of the passenger vehicle has died. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin.

Highway 17 has been re-opened to two lanes as of 9:50 pm

The investigation is continuing.

The OPP North – East detachment are reporting a fatal accident on Hwy 11/17 between Iron Bridge and Blind River, Ontario.  The East Algoma OPP Detachment is further reporting that there are fatalities. Hwy17 remains closed. No detour available.

The accident happened at approx. 1:30 pm. June 22, 2018.

Update from OPP North East Detachment

OPP Investigate Fatal Collision – Highway will be closed for several hours.

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On June 22, 2018, at approximately 1:26 p.m., East Algoma officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in the township of Huron Shores, Ontario.

Police investigation revealed that a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle have collided. The OPP have confirmed that the driver of the passenger vehicle has died. Algoma Paramedic Services and Huron Shores Fire Department are assisting with the investigation.

Motorists can expect Highway 17 between Blind River, Ontario and Iron Bridge, Ontario to be closed for several hours as OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) continue the investigation.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation and police will provide more details as they become available. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

  1. Sorry for your loss but the cars that couldn’t get through were charges double for a room that is retarded. No feels for that motel would stay there.

  2. How could officers respond at 1:26 if the accident happened at 3:30?
    Btw as one who has been to the scene. No, not 3:30

  3. Very sad. I did the detour from Blind River to Elliot Lake to Hey 129 then home west os Thessalon. It took 3 hours.
