Yesterday Chief Hugh Stevenson joined President and Vice Chancellor of Algoma University Asima Veizna and Director of Anishinabbe initiatives Joe Tom Sayers on a cultural tour of Algoma University.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is continuing to work in partnership with Algoma University and our indigenous partners to develop and implement programs and training that will assist our officers in better serving our community.
“I was excited to learn of the indigenous training program being created for our staff in collaboration with Algoma University. Our service will remain committed to working with our partners to find new and innovative ways to serve our community. ” said Chief Hugh Stevenson.
Later in the day, Chief Stevenson joined Sgt. Kevin Redsky of the Anishinabek Police Service walking in Garden River as part of his “Hope in the Darkness” walk across Canada to raise awareness and generate discussions around youth mental health issues.
“It was an absolute pleasure to join Sgt. Redsky on a small portion of his journey today. He has helped to create an open conversation about mental health issues, and anytime our community has a conversation with the police great things can happen.”
