A cyclist was charged following an accident with a commercial van on Pim St. last Saturday.
Sonny Spina of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said the accident happened when a 31-year-old man, who was riding his bike southbound on the sidewalk, collided with a commercial van who was exiting a business.
The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
He was fined $45 under a municipal bylaw that prohibits persons over the age of 10 from riding bikes on the sidewalk.
His name was not released by police.
I’m “assuming ” that RaeAnn Childs Perrault either KNOWS the cyclist OR IS THE CYCLIST???
I’m not trying to make trouble but there might be more to this story than the press is releasing.
road rage is accepted as a reason why they hit you, even if they’re TURNING INTO YOU, you on the bike are irrelevant…. especially if the cop has a chip on his shoulder about you
n if a car hits you after you are of the sidewalk but entering the road, whether the vision clear or others, you are charged for riding a bicycle on the sidewalk (even of the person SAW you and ran you down -firsthand experience)
Just moved up, good to know its a $45 fine for riding your bike on the sidewalk if you’re over the age of 10
I honestly rather pay that than bike on the side of the road in most parts in this city. Drivers sometimes forget that bicyclists have the right to ride responsibly on the road. However,I also see a lot of people on bikes that don’t ride safely so it often goes both ways sadly. Now that I drive I’m cautious and just bike more on the hub trails etc. But there is also a fine too for bicycles that dont have proper lighting for evening biking too.
Key word….responsibly!!
Good !!!!!. I refuse to give an inch to anyone that looks to be over 10 on a sidewalk anywhere… Watched a father taking his two kids on a bike training ride the other day. they were little and on the sidewalk, but he was riding on the wrong side against traffic… Great lessons to teach your kids right off the bat…
