Judy Hupponen announced today that she will seek re-election in the upcoming Municipal Election.

Hupponen, who is also a local business owner, was elected to represent Ward three in 2014.

In a statement released today Hupponen states, “It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie on City Council. This city council has accomplished a lot in almost 4 years, but we still have more work to do. I hope through my efforts I have earned your trust and support for a second term.  This Council and Mayor have worked very hard to provide the high levels of service our residents deserve at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayer, and create an environment that would encourage business growth and create jobs.”

Since being elected Hupponen has served on a number of boards including , Conservation Authority, District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services, Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site, Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society to name a few.

Hupponen considers serving on city council as a public service, and wants to continue to do what she can to move the city in a positive direction.

“If I’m fortunate enough to be re-elected, I would like to offer my time to the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation and help in any way I can to support growth and future development, retain jobs and attract visitors. I also believe that we must do more to lobby the Provincial Government for funding to increase the number of long term care beds that are so desperately needed. “

  1. Not good news for ward three…
She doesn’t return phone calls and belongs to the “back room” clique where there is no transparency.
We need a good alternative in ward three – hopefully someone that lives there and has an interest other than self serving!

  2. Hello Honest Opinion – According to the Municipal Act, a person is eligible to be a candidate for Mayor or Councilor if they are: A resident of Sault Ste. Marie, or an owner or tenant of land in the City of Sault Ste. Marie… I’m sure the City Clerk will be happy to confirm for you.

  3. I may be wrong, but don’t you need to be a resident in the municipality in order to run?
