An on-duty uniform member from the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been charged after a collision that occurred at 7:30 p.m. on Friday June 8, 2018 on Highway 17 in the Township of Alanen, District of Algoma.

The officer was travelling in the southbound lane of Highway 17 when he collided with a civilian motor vehicle in the same lane.

The OPP vehicle, a fully marked black and white police cruiser, did not have the emergency lights activated at the time of the collision.

The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to hospital for assessment. The 21 year old female civilian driver and a 25 year old female passenger were also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries for assessment.

Provincial Constable Garrett ROTH, 27-years-old of Hornepayne, Ontario has been charged with Careless Driving contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act. The officer has been a member of the OPP for two years and five months.

  1. Good and bad in every industry.
    I know lots of very good honest cops.
    We dont know this man, and prob dont know the whole story. But justice was served (yes you can aegue he was charged…not convicted yet)….lets avoid slandering the entire provincial force based on uneducated, biased, one-sided opinions.
    The man was charged…like anyone else would have been.
    The man isnt perfect….like none of us are.
    Maybe i should say, that anyone who complains about the entire force is prob a criminal.
    Argue with me…. you are doing the same by assuming the entire force is corrupt.

  2. now see how they left out he was on root to something when it happened and now they bring it up covering up that he was just speeding like they all do and on his phone nice way to cover it all up neat well I hope the girls sue the pants off him and the police force the police force is becoming a joke

  3. I almost t-boned 2 city police officers yes. Not one but two . ( both separate occasions ) … after they failed to stop for stop signs …….. cause me to slam on the breaks , I do t ever speed and always pay attention but. They need to open they’re eyes just like the rest of us
