Tolchinsky heading to the KHL

After spending three full seasons with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, it was announced on Thursday that former Soo Greyhounds star forward Sergey Tolchinsky has signed with the KHL’s CSKA Moskva.

Tolchinsky, who was taken by the Hounds in the 1st round (12th overall) during the 2012 CHL Import Draft, recorded 237 points in 189 career regular season games with the Hounds.

His 237 career points with the Hounds from 2012-2015, made him the Hounds all-time points leader among import players, passing the late Josef Vasicek, who had 128 career points with the Hounds from 1998-2000.

Despite not being drafted by an NHL team, Tolchinsky ended up signing a three year, entry level contact with the Carolina Hurricanes as a free agent on August 22nd, 2013.

The Moscow, Russia native suited up for 4 games with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, scoring 0 goals and setting up 2 others.

In 175 career regular season games with the Charlotte Checkers, the 23 year old recorded 28 goals and 85 points.

The last time Hounds fans got to see the talented Russian forward play hockey in the Soo, was back on October 5th, 2016, when the Essar Centre hosted an NHL Exhibition Game between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Buffalo Sabres.
