The American Hockey League’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have announced on Thursday that they have signed Echo Bay, Ontario native Jarrett Burton for the 2018-2019 season.
Last season with the Penguins, the 27 year old forward set career highs in goals (9), assists (10), points (19) and games played (52).
Burton has been a member of the Penguins from 2015-2018.
During his time in the NOJHL from 2006-2008, Burton suited up for two teams, including the Soo Thunderbirds and the Blind River Beavers.
In three games played with the Soo Thunderbirds during the 2006-2007 season, the Echo Bay, Ontario product had one goal.
He scored his first NOJHL goal in his first game played with the Soo Thunderbirds back on November 8th, 2006, when the Thunderbirds defeated the Blind River Beavers 6-4 at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
In his first full season in the NOJHL during 2007-2008, Burton suited up for the Blind River Beavers, where he led the club in scoring with 23 goals and 52 points in 48 regular season games, before being named the NOJHL’s Rookie of the Year.
Last season with the Penguins, Burton was also a teammate of former Soo Greyhounds defenceman Kevin Spinozzi, who also signed with the Penguins for the 2018-2019 season.
Spinozzi, not to mention, played with the Hounds during the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons.
He was then traded to the Sarnia Sting back on January 7th, 2014, in exchange for forward Bryan Moore and defenceman Tyler Hore.
