Discarded Cigarette Leads to Fire

In the early morning hours of July 3rd, 2018, Sault Ste. Marie fire crews responded to a garage fire in the 100 block of Raymond Street.

Upon further investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be a result of discarded cigarettes in a trash container. The fire caused damage to furniture contained within the garage. The heat generated from the fire also damaged a neighbouring property. There were no injuries to report.

Fire Services would like to remind the community to ensure smokers articles are fully extinguished and doused with water prior to emptying into a trash container.

  1. You would think that if you smoke you know enough to make sure that the cigarette is extinguished before trashing it. I used to water down the but.
