The Heart and Stroke Foundation is pleased to be the Canadian charity of choice for the Gordon Paterson ride. Gordon will be biking from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Vancouver, British Columbia this summer to help raise funds for life-saving heart disease and stroke research. He will be arriving in Sault Ste. Marie on July 16th.
About the Gordon Paterson Ride:
Gordon was born in Kelowna B.C and grew up in Port Coquitlam from 1960 until he left to travel in 1983. He has lived in Scotland since 1987 and now resides just outside Edinburgh. In 2013 Gordon lost his Aunt Helene, whom he was very close to, unexpectedly due to heart and stroke complications. Then, in 2015 he received that unwanted phone call that his mother, Ann Paterson, suffered a stroke from which she never recovered. Fortunately, Gordon managed to get to her the day before she passed away. Then, in 2016 his father James Paterson suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. This time, through hard work and support within the hospital and in the community, James recovered. Gordon knew that he wanted to help those affected by heart disease and stroke in some way. When he made the connection with Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) and saw the work they do through funding research into heart disease and stroke, providing recovery support and promoting a healthy active lifestyle for those affected by heart disease and stroke, he knew this was where he could help. He then made contact with Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and discovered that the work they do was very similar to CHSS. Having strong ties with Canada and Britain he wanted to bring the two organizations together and raise funds for the work they do. Follow Gordon’s journey here: https://www.theroadipedal.com/
Gordon will be at the Sault Ste. Marie office at 59 Great Northern Road on Monday, July 16th (time to be determined.) If anyone would like to come out and share their story of how they, their family or friends have been affected by heart disease and stroke, or simply to meet Gordon, please call before hand at 705-253-3775 for time. Please donate and be part of the journey to help HSFC continue the vital work they do within the community and in funding lifesaving research.
