It’s a Busy Weekend on the River

This weekend, dozens of speed boats will be travelling down the St. Mary’s River between Sault Ste. Marie and Thessalon for the 2018 CAN/AM President’s Cup VIP Poker Run. Event organizers are asking the boating public to, whenever possible, stay clear of the designated course and be cautious when navigating the waterways during the event.

The Poker Run is taking place Saturday, July 28. Starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Roberta Bondar Marina in Sault Ontario, the boats will head southeast down the U.S. channel through Lake Nicolet to Richards Landing, Ontario.

From there, they’ll head southeast down the St. Joseph Channel to Hilton Beach, Ontario. The last stop is in Thessalon, Ontario. After that, the vessels will head back to Sault Ste. Marie the same way they came.

Along with the Poker Run on Saturday, there will also be increased boating activity on the St. Mary’s River in and around the Twin Saults on Friday, July 27 and Sunday, July 29. The boating public is asked to be cautious for the duration of the weekend.

  1. They should have the boats on display for anyone who cares but instead of burning tens of thousands in fuel the money should be donated to local charities.
