Mantha Demands Answers From Ford Government. (Video)

During question period Monday, NDP MPP Michael Mantha demanded answers from the Ford government on the cancellation of the Green Ontario Fund.

“This sudden cancellation has hurt families in my riding that signed contracts worth several thousand dollars,” said Mantha, MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin.

In Wawa, where families face some of the highest energy costs in the province, 30 homeowners were approved to receive a rebate for installing new, modern wood heating appliances. But now they have until September to finish the installations.

“This is not enough time. Many families will lose the rebate and many contractors will lose work,” said Mantha, who demanded that the Ford government extend the GreenON program to prevent Northern families from losing thousands of dollars.

New Democrats do not want the GreenON program cancelled as it was good for jobs, the economy and the environment, and cancelling it puts jobs at risk.

Mantha told the premier about Roland Dubois, the owner of Dubois Construction, who did everything to make his company and employees qualify under the GreenON program.

“He paid the mileage, the accommodations, the tuition and wages while they got that training. But now, because of the premier’s cancellation of the GreenON program, the work will disappear and he and his workers will have invested that time and money for nothing,” said Mantha.

“Will the premier continue to ignore folks like Roland Dubois, or will he respect businesses and workers, and extend the GreenON program so all installations can be completed?”

  1. And guess what the Global Adjustment line on your electricity bill is for? It is to pay for the rebates being handed out. So your consumption may drop due to a green initiative you may have installed, but your bill will keep going up anyway due to Global Adjustments, Delivery Surcharges, Debt Reduction charges, blah blah blah. Want to burn less electricity, install your own wood burning stove…why do the rest of us have to subsidize you for that, or for buying a Tesla? The gov’t should not be there to hand out money.

  2. Another flop burning more billions of our tax money. Btw, we are waiting to hear when Wynne is going to jail for her crimes.

  3. Yeah, and many tax payers front the bill for this green energy. Stop handouts, and get back to the basics, Ontario is over 400 billion in debt! Ask yourself why, because of government handouts and wreckless spending. This greenon all started with ontarians using to much power and giving incentives to become more energy efficient, but on the other hand we create too much power and sell it for pennies on the dollar!

    • Mark Fluter not to mention, I don’t think people realize what entails to get these incentives, it’s a song and dance put it that way! Remember when the government wanted everyone to buy energy efficient bulbs, turned out they were poisonous.. what a mess

    • Hey Mike Premo do you remember the solar panels being put up? I think the incentive was around .08$/kWh but most everyone who ever did get solar farms built received less than .02$/kWh. So the government who offered this incentive didn’t even stand true to their word and a lot of people went belly up because of this. Our solar farms in town are less than 12 years old and only operating at 1/3 what they should. Not to mention the solar and wind farms here should potentially generate 1/4-1/2 of the energy our city needs, but they sell it to the Americans for less than 0.02$/kWh, they also sell our Brookfield power. But where does our energy come from some might ask. It comes from the states at a higher cost than what we initially sell it to them for.
I’m going to finish with, it’s just a joke. They sell anything that has potential to generate any kind of revenue. And that is why our province is 400 billion in debt.
