Toronto Mayor John Tory is tying a shooting that claimed two lives in the heart of the city’s entertainment district to gang violence.
Speaking to media about the incident at a Canada Day event Sunday morning, Tory said people with ties to gangs and alleged repeat offenders are “the only ones that pose a threat” to the city.
He said he’s spoken with the police chief and knows that officers are working hard to curb the violence and catch the people responsible.
Toronto police say shots rang out outside a club on the city’s bustling Queen Street West on Saturday evening, killing two men and injuring a woman.
Investigators say two suspects were seen running from the area, and may have fled in a black SUV or white car.
Police have not named the men who were killed.
