On Thursday, the NOJHL’s Powassan Voodoos have announced that they have signed Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario product David Campbell.
Campbell, who was selected by the North Bay Battalion in the 4th round (69th overall) in this year’s OHL Priority Selection, spent last season with the North Bay Trappers Minor Midget AAA club.
During the 2017-2018 season, Campbell led the Trappers in scoring with 24 goals and 36 points in 24 regular season games.
He also played five games last season with the NOJHL’s Blind River Beavers, where he scored once and set up two others.
The Voodoos, who are the affiliate team of the OHL’s North Bay Battalion, finished fourth overall in the Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings last season.
Campbell, who turned 16 years old just five days after the OHL Draft, was one of five members out of the North Bay Trappers Minor Midget AAA club to be drafted by the OHL’s North Bay Battalion, along with defenceman Pacey Schlueting 1st round (9th overall), forwards Jesse Kirkby 9th round (169th overall) and Jack Stockfish 15th round (285th overall) and goaltender Reece Proulx 11th round (209th overall).
The 16 year old forward scored twice and set up two others in four games for Team NOHA at this year’s OHL Cup, and finished tied for first in team scoring with teammate Pacey Schlueting.
Campbell was just one of two Sooites to be selected in this year’s OHL Priority Selection, along with Justin Mauro, who was taken in the 15th round by the Erie Otters.
