Fake Facebook posts are new hacker phase

Facebook has identified and banned hundreds of accounts, groups and pages engaged in misleading political behavior.

Among the 652 pages, groups, and accounts linked to Russia and unexpectedly, Iran, that Facebook this week announced it had removed, were pages disparaging both North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and President Trump, Brexit, and immigration.

Tech analyst Susan Etlinger says social media companies such as Facebook and Twitter have ways of determining whether an account is authentic, including double checking the phone numbers and emails associated with the account.

Etlinger says the types of issues where these fake accounts hope to influence world events demonstrate the operations have entered a new phase.
