Jody Wilson to Open New Restaurant at John Rhodes Location

Last night, City Council gave former Chilly Willy’s Sports Bar and Grill operator Jody Wilson the go ahead to run a new restaurant in the same space on the second floor of the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Wilson ran Chilly Willy’s from 2011 to 2014, before he was pushed out by Sudbury-based Centro Sports Bar and Restaurant in 2015. Earlier this year, Centro ended its five-year lease with the city of Sault Ste. Marie, due to the fact that it was operating at a loss and unable to continue operations.

Wilson’s new bar will be called Icebreakers Grill and Bar and is expected to open in early September, with the lease officially starting on September 1st. The seven-year agreement is expected to bring in $280,000 in revenue plus annual taxes of almost $17,000 for the restaurant space.

Wilson, who has experience working within the local hockey community, intends for Icebreakers to support local businesses as much as possible. The restaurant space space will be renovated and designed to honour local hockey heroes and legends.
