Updated – video. ONNtv on scene of active shooting at Yorkdale Mall.


ONNtv Director/Producer Mike Chikoski is currently on scene at the Yorkdale Mall where a shooting took place at approximately 3:30 pm this afternoon.

Toronto Police Service Superintendent Rob Johnson addressed the media at 5:30 pm relating to a firearm discharge. TPS Supt. Johnson stated that “there was an altercation between 2 groups of males (at least 3 per side), 2 shots fired, 2 suspects last seen at the South-East corner of Yorkdale Mall. Police are assisting store employees to secure stores & help employees get their belongings from mall.


5:00 pm. There are reports of three people being taken to hospital. No reports of life-threatening injuries.

“Following today’s incident, we will be closed for the rest of the day to allow police to investigate. Yorkdale is secure and we are cooperating with police to safely evacuate the centre. We expect to open as scheduled tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.” a spokesperson for Yorkdale Mall said.

From the Toronto Police Service (TPS) via twitter at 4:00 pm: Yorkdale Shopping Centre is in lockdown. Nobody being let in. People being assisted to leave. Officers canvassing for witnesses and video from witnesses, mall and stores.  East side of mall is location of incident.

According to the TPS, they are looking for:

Multiple suspects #1-M/B/20’s/black jacket(hoodie)/blue jeans

#2-M/Mixed/20’s/Skinny/5’9/black handgun. .
