On August 16, 2018, shortly before 4:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 17, within the Territory of Serpent River First Nation, where a westbound vehicle came upon another vehicle very fast and attempted to pass it on the right shoulder.
Police located the vehicle speeding through the Town of Blind River travelling at over 115 km/hr in a posted 50 km/hr zone. Police initiated a traffic stop near the junction of Causley Street and Hudson Street.
As result of the investigation, the male driver Delision YOGARATNAM, 29 years of age, from Toronto, Ontario was charged with: Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt-Speeding by 50 or more km/hr, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The driver’s vehicle was impounded seven days and his licence suspended.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 31, 2018.
