Summer Fun for Teens at the Library!


Digital Creator North – Sault Ste. Marie is hosting another teen-organized video game tournament this Friday, August 24th. ​Summer Smash 4 is a unique and free tournament for teens ages 13 – 19, taking place at the James L. MacIntyre Centennial Public Library (50 East Street).

Summer Smash 4 ​ will be the fourth of a series of teen-organized, teen-only Super Smash Bros. tournaments to take place at Digital Creator North in the Sault Ste. Marie.The idea started with two teens from Korah who are passionate about video games and who wanted to create a space to bring together like-minded teens from around the city.This is one of several community-based initiatives teens from Digital Creator have participated in over the summer. Others include videography at Art in the Park N’ Lot, Fringe North, and the Downtown Street Party, and playing music on the Norgoma.

DigitalCreatorNorth is a teen-only digital media lab and hangout space located in the downtown public library. The program engages youth in new media art and technology through workshops, access to an assortment of technology and software, and one-on-one mentorship.

The Sault Ste. Marie site is one of six other Digital Creator North spaces across Northern Ontario where teens can come together to hangout and engage in what interests them.The program is headed by Near North Mobile Media Lab in North Bay.

The game ​Summer Smash 4 ​ will be Super Smash Bros. 4 for Wii U. As always, some light snacks will be provided and prizes will go to top contenders.

Sign-in is at 11:30 and gameplay takes place from 12 – 5 PM.
