Algoma Men’s Thunderbirds get blanked in Waterloo


After ending last season with a record of 2 wins and 14 losses, the Algoma Thunderbirds men’s soccer team kicked off their 2018-2019 season on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo against the 1-1 Warriors.

The Thunderbirds opened up their regular season with a loss on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 2-0 decision to the Warriors at Warrior Field.

Logan Wright scored unassisted at the 5:00 mark of the first half to put the Warriors up by one.

Sebastian Guerrieri’s second goal of the season at the 47:00 mark of the game, put the Warriors up by two.

Guerrieri’s goal, was also unassisted.

Goalkeeper Tristan Vander Hoef recorded the shutout for the Warriors.

Kevin Picard gave up 2 goals on 9 shots in the Thunderbirds loss.

The men’s Thunderbirds will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2:15 p.m. for a rematch against the Warriors at Warrior Field.
