Algoma University women’s Thunderbirds get blanked in Waterloo


After ending last season with a record of 0 wins and 16 losses, the Algoma University women’s soccer team kicked off their 2018-2019 regular season on Saturday afternoon as they were in Waterloo to take on the 0-2 Warriors.

The women’s Thunderbirds, who have been members of the OUA since 2014, have never won a game.

On Saturday afternoon, the women’s Thunderbirds opened up their regular season with a loss as they dropped a 2-0 decision to the Waterloo Warriors at Warrior Field.

Danielle Erb scored unassisted at the 40:00 mark of the first half, putting the Warriors up 1-0.

Mylissa Tom scored unassisted at the 53:00 mark of the game, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead.

Warriors goalkeeper Morgan Berg picked up the shutout.

The women’s Thunderbirds have not scored a goal in a season opening game since August 29th, 2015, when they lost 18-1 to the Laurier Golden Hawks at University Stadium.

The women’s Thunderbirds will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. for a rematch against the Warriors at Warrior Field.
