AU Thunderbirds come home winless from Thunder Bay

It’s only pre-season, but the Algoma Thunderbirds have some work ahead of them before the 2018-2019 OUA season begins.  The Thunderbirds travelled to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead women’s basketball team.  The Thunderwolves from Thunder Bay took down the Algoma Thunderbirds, posting convincing wins by scores of 93-66 and 87-50.

The Thunderwolves started both games well, and never looked back.

In game 1, Leashja Grant, dominated all players with 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals. Her teammate and first-year T-Wolf Sofia Lluch debuted with 11 points and 5 assists along with Tiffany Reynolds and Nikki Ylagan who each respectively put up 11 and 10 points.

In game 2, Leashja Grant had another successful night for the Wolves putting up 21 points, 9 rebounds. Tiffany Reynolds had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals and Karissa Kajorinne and Nikki Ylagan both also hit the double digits.

The Thunderwolves also dominated the Algoma Thunderbirds on the glass with 44 rebounds compared to Algoma’s 22.

Next up for the Thunderwolves will be the BOB FM tournament in Winnipeg, while the Algoma Thunderbirds will head to Sudbury to take on the Laurentian Voyagers in exhibition play.
