A crowd gathered to watch as the tarp came off the new signage for the GFL Memorial Gardens late Wednesday morning.
As well as a new look outside, the branding throughout the interior of the building has been updated, including the GFL name and logo featured at Centre Ice, the GFL name on Soo Greyhound publications and tickets, and luxury suite branding.
GFL CEO Patrick Dovigi told SaultOnline that the decision to take over the building was an easy one for him to make.
“Growing up, I always wanted to be an entrepreneur and by fluke just got into the environmental services business, and it sort of morphed into a national company in Canada,” he explained. “And, obviously being from Sault Ste. Marie, we have deep roots here and I thought it was important to come back and name the arena after the company I founded.”
This is the third time the home of the Greyhounds has switched hands in the past 11 years.
