Major Midget Thunderbirds fall to Majors


After opening up their 2018-2019 regular season with a 4-1 victory over the Timmins Majors last night at GFL Memorial Gardens, the Soo Rivercity Motorsports Major Midget Thunderbirds were back in action this afternoon for a rematch against the Majors at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

The Thunderbirds record dropped to 1-1 on the season this afternoon as they lost to the Majors by a score of 5-2.

Eric Daigle, who had the only goal for the Majors in last night’s 4-1 loss to the Thunderbirds, scored his second goal of the season this afternoon just 39 seconds into the game to give the Majors a 1-0 lead after the first period.

Thunderbirds right winger Jacob Sewell scored his first goal of the season 3:45 into the second to tie the game up at one.

Forward Jesse Dupuis scored his first goal of the season with just 36 seconds to go in the middle frame, giving the Majors a 2-1 lead heading into the third.

Majors forward Brennan Martel finished the game with two goals and an assist while Mason Berthiaume and Garrett Gelinas had two assists each.

Cameron Dutkiewicz had an empty net goal and an assist for the Majors.

Nick Niro had a power play goal for the Thunderbirds while Michael Barone, Cole Ambeault, Donny Davisson and Brock Santa Maria all had an assist each.

Goaltender Connor Johnson was in goal for the Majors victory while Andrew Uschenko was in net for the Thunderbirds loss.

The Thunderbirds will be back in action next Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against the Sudbury Nickel Capital Major Midget Wolves at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
