Major Midget Thunderbirds open their season with a win


The Soo Rivercity Motorsports Major Midget Thunderbirds kicked off their 2018-2019 regular season on Friday night as they took on the Timmins Majors at the GFL Memorial Gardens.

The Thunderbirds opened up their regular season with a win on Friday night as they defeated the Majors by a score of 4-1.

Right winger Michael Chaffey led the way offensively for the Thunderbirds with an empty net goal and two assists while forward Nick Jameus also had a big night with a pair of goals.

Jameus opened the scoring for the Thunderbirds 8:00 into the first period, before adding an empty netter with 98 seconds to go in the third.

Michael Barone scored once and set up another for the Soo while Kurtis Rogers and Nick Niro had one assist each.

Eric Daigle had a power play goal for the Majors.

Majors goaltender Dylan Dallaire gave up 2 goals on 12 shots in the loss while Thunderbirds netminder Noah Zeppa made 16 saves for the victory.

The Thunderbirds are back on the ice this afternoon for a rematch against the Majors at 12:30 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
